Facilities Services Group is committed to assisting responsible businesses in their efforts to minimize harmful effects on the environment.  We believe in nine basic principals that help us meet this goal:

Principal 1 - Focus on People.

It's important in any green cleaning program to enlist the cooperation and enthusiasm of everyone involved.

Principal 2 - Clean for health first.

The goal of green cleaning should be to safeguard human health by enhancing IEQ (indoor environment quality), and only secondary to improve the condition of physical property.

Principal 3 - Consider the whole building.

It does no good to remove pollutants from one surface only to be re-circulated through the building and redeposited elsewhere.  Not only will they have to be removed again later, but  it also does little to reduce human exposure.

Principal 4 - Use safe products and processes.

Use the least toxic product while maintaining a high standard of cleaning.  Reduced toxicity, appropriateness, registration, minimal packaging, recycled content, and no hazardous disposal can all make a difference in IEQ.

Principal 5 - Protect human safety.

Provide for the safety of all building occupants and cleaning personnel before, during, and after cleaning operations.

Principal 6 - Minimize human exposure.

Control conditions such as environmental, ventilation, and scheduling.  Collectively they can dominate a healthier atmosphere.

Principal 7 - Minimize pollutants.

Minimize the presence of pollutants by using quality performance equipment, low-residue products, thorough cleaning techniques, and effective preventive techniques.

Principal 8 - Dispose of cleaning waste properly.

Proper disposal is a primary environmental concern and a critical component of any green cleaning program.

Principal 9 - Be prepared for accidents.

An effective green cleaning program should have a comprehensive "disaster" plan in place to deal with the various kinds of accidents and other unanticipated events that might occur in a facility.
